Sneijder wins the treble, scores 5 times at the WC, makes the WC final?

that beats me too, i guess its about individual performances nowadays, now i see gareth bale in the running next year

The award is voted by national teams coaches, captains and journalists.. so nobody can blame it on UEFA or anyone else.

You know whats a joke? Cannavaro winning 2006 FIFA player of the year just cause Italy won the WC. Iniesta is 100 times better than Cannavaro ever was, and he scored the only goal in the final. Individually, he is a better player than Sneijder.. i wont even compare him with Xavi & Messi, altho i am suprised because i did expect him because of the CL win, but i cant say that im not thrilled to have all Barca players in top 3.

In my opinion, Messi is the obvious winner, best player in the world which no one can be compared to him, but Xavi and Iniesta are very under-estimated, they really deserve to be in the top 3. Second to Messi, Iniesta has the best control with the ball and was key for Barcelona and Spain in the World Cup, Xavi on the otherhand was very vital in the World Cup and has been vital for Barcelona. Sneijder deserves some respect but his treble came from an outstanding defence including Lucio, Zanetti/Chivu, Samuel, and Maicon, and Jose Mourinho was the main reason why they won, not Sneijder. Look at Inter with Benitez, 4th or 5th place in Serie A, second in their CL group to SPURS. Sneijder has had less of an effect since the World Cup (I don't blame him), Samuel Eto'o is better than him atm. Messi scored 47 goals, a bunch of assists, and 25 goals this season. He could have done a little better at the World Cup, but he did pretty good for a guy with none of his world class club teammates with Argentina, a crappy coach, and having the pressure to win the World Cup at age 23, he was also nominated for the Golden Ball during that tournament too considering he didn't score. Messi is on fire this season, unlike Sneijder. Messi is even better than he was in 2009, he should definitely win the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA WPOTY again. Sneijder does deserve recognizition, but he isn't to be compared to the other Dutch greats who played true beautiful football such as Cruyff or Van Basten.

Isn't it crazy that La Masia is going for 1, 2, 3 in the Ballon d'Or? That's how great they are!!! Who's next from La Masia to make the finalists list in the future? Pique? Fabregas (when he's at Barca ofc)?

The nerve of some people. How he is not in it is beyond me. And yet the top 3 are ALL spanish... What did Iniesta do last season anway? Barca would be nothing without Messi, he can create half the goals he scores himself! All he did was the score in WC final. But I guess that counts for a helluva lot. Call me cynical, whatever. I'm disgusted.

honestly? i think it has something to do with the fact that he's dutch.

i think the dutch side in the world cup was pretty unpopular, considering their style of play was universally condemned as being 'anti-football.'

they played a pretty brutish (nigel de jong and mark van bommel=THUG LIFE) and uninspired game. most fans were pretty happy that the platonic ideal of beautiful football, as exemplified by the spanish, won out over the cynical tactics of the dutch.

so sneijder being dutch doesn't help his case.

and what's more, inter milan generally don't get nearly as much attention in the news as the other top european sides. despite the fact that they won the treble, they don't even seem like the most popular side in their city.

have no idea why though. because people don't like eto'o? regardless, if sneijder played for real madrid or chelsea, he'd probably be a lot more popular, and might then be on the ballot for the golden balloon.

The award is a joke to be honest. Don't really take it seriously but Sneijder did have a fantastic season with Inter and how he isn't in the top 3 is beyond me.

Inter's success of last season was a teamwork and Sneider wasn't their best player but Milito was.

Milito should have been in the running.

If milito wasn't in the 30 men list then I completely agree with this selection.

It should have been

1. Messi

2. Milito

3. Xavi

Sneijder doesn't deserve in the top 3 or anywhere near.

I'm not an Inter fan but I definitely say that Sneijder should win it. He should be recognized for what he did. He carried Holland to the WC final

He is right after Barca's trio, he is 4th in the world, which is not bad in my opinion.... although Inter won the treble because of Mourinho and his refs, not because Sneijder.
