ATHEISTS, If Evolution is true why is the same side of the moon always facing us?

The orbit of the moon just "HAPPENS" to be the exact same length of time as it's rotation.

The odds of that happening by chance are "LESS than one in a billion!"

True Bible believing Christians™ like me realize that god did this on purpose,

So we would always be able to see the man on the moon and be inspired by his greatness.

How can this be a Random act of Evilution?

Atheistics need REPAINT and realized the moon was intelligently place there by God, who also wrote the laws of gravity and the laws of orbit.

It isn't due to evolution. Evolution involve living things--things that reproduce. Moons don't reproduce.

However, the consensus opinion is that, early in the universe, there were many more celestial bodies than there are nowadays. Over time, many of these were captured by the gravity of planets. Others crashed into the sun, the planets, or the moons. We can still see the craters of some of the meteorites that crashed into our own planet today. And the moon, as we can plainly see, is very heavily cratered. And, finally, we watched comet Schomaker-Levy crashed into Jupiter back in the 1990s.

One of the earlier objects was a planet about the size of Mars It was in an unstable orbit and ended up colliding with earth. It was just a glancing blow, but a huge amount of debris was thrown out of the atmosphere. The debris coallesced into the moon through accretion.

In the beginning, the moon was liquid, as was earth at the time--a giant, molten planet with a fairly large molten moon. We know that tides can be affected on earth by the current moon...imagine the effects the gravity of a much larger earth had on the moon. The tides always had to face the earth, which meant that the tide rotated with the moon's orbit. Momentum kept the speed constant after the moon cooled enough to form a solid surface. This process, known as tidal locking, would make the revolution and rotation of the moon identical. Thus, the same side always faces us.

It would also predict that the far side of the moon would be much more heavily cratered that than the side we can see. If you look at any maps that have been produced of the moon, you'll see that this is clearly true.

No other explanation has been able to explain why earth is the only terrestrial planet with a single spherical moon in a steady orbit (Mars' two moon are irregularly shaped asteroids with an unstable orbit), and no other explanation has been able to determine why the Moon is made from the same materials as the earth's mantle.

We happen to be living at a point in history when it is true that the orbit cycle closely matches the rotation speed (it is not exact), but Earth's history stretches far beyond the time period when this happens to be true, and Earth will be around for much longer than the point at which this phenomenon will end. So to answer your question, yes this happens to be a coincidence. HOWEVER, if this wasn't a coincidence, and the moon did happen to defy physics and travel around the Earth at exactly the appropriate speed throughout the entirety of time, it would still not "disprove" evolution. In fact, even if this phenomenon could be PROVEN to be the work of an all-powerful creator without a shred of doubt, it would STILL not disprove evolution, because evolution does not describe the motion of extra-terrestrial bodies. Evolution describes the process by which biological populations change over time.

    That's a good one xD

Also to the guy who compared this to Pluto and Charon, you are wrong. Pluto and Charon is the next step, the final stage, while Moon's orbit is still evolving. The process will stop when Moon and Earth will be rotating as a single body. So if you were standing on Moon, the same side of Earth would be always seen (that's what Pluto and Charon are right now).

Evolution is concerned with biology. Not cosmology.

If the Moon and Earth were not locked the way they are, life might have ended up different than it is now, is all.

Bonus question: Why would an intelligent designer not make the Earth's orbit around the Sun a whole number of Earth days?

It was by a chance that the moon found itself in that particular orbit because of gravity. When a meteor collided with the earth, a piece of rock was flung up from it to land coincidentally into that gravitational field - it was caught, some one did not plant it there.

    *headdesk*

******* get your facts straight. Gravitation and the moon aren't a part of evolution - it's a part of space and science. Evolution is about the change in animals and their development in genes.

In the distant past, the Earth's tidal pull on the Moon slowed the Moon's rotation to match the time it takes to go around Earth.

Have you ever played badminton? The heavier end of the shuttle alway comes toward you ball end first. This is because there is more mass in one end of the shuttle. The moon is not evenly formed. The heavier mass on one side keeps it locked with once face toward the earth.

Lol, what does evolution have to do with this?

The moon IS NOT a planet or a star. It is basically an oversized rock that is attracted by the earth's orbit

Seeing as how the moon was only discovered in 1969, we need more time to study this.*

*Editor's note: Something cannot be discovered until a white person plants a flag in it. This is why America wasn't discovered until 1492 even though Native Americans had already been there.
