Having multiple dirty diapers in a day is not necessarily diarrhea. In fact, it's very normal for babies, esp. breastfed ones, to have several dirty diapers each day. And normal breastmilk stools are loose and liquidy.
Does he show signs of dehydration? (Sunken fontanel? Dry mouth/mucus membranes? Lethary? Few wet diapers with dark/strong smelling urine?) If not, he's almost certainly fine.
If he does seem dehydrated or ill, or his stools are foul smelling or contain blood or mucus, call the doctor or take him to the ER. (With true diarrhea little ones can get seriously dehydrated very quickly.

I would take him to see the family Doctor. It can be just as simple as changing the formula. Some babies can't handle some formulas. When there was a recall Similac Powdered baby formula my sister had a hard time with it. We tried a different formula but my niece was having diarrhea and throwing it up. When my sister took her to see the dr the dr just told her that she her stomach couldn't digest the formula correctly. But now she's back on the Similac Powder formula and she's fine.
You can try to change the formula and see what happens but if it still happens then take him to the dr.

I agree with every one else in saying you should book an appointment to get your baby seen with the doctor.
But you said no panicky answers so maybe try feeding him some stage 1 banana...it might make him constipated if you feed him too much of it but if it does just give him 1tbs of dark karo syrup in a 4 oz bottle, it will take a couple bottles.
But you should really talk to the doctor.

you asked for no panicky answers well hun you just asked a panicky question. no 4 month old should be having diarrhea and eating less. that sounds like a trip to the doctors office and tell them whats been going on.

That is serious. take him to see your family doctor right away. Could be some gastric problem. The docror will probably prescribe some medicine for the baby. ASAP.
