Numbness in fingers after broken arm help?

broke my arm yesterday during hockey and take a look at the xray...http://i637.photobucket.com/albums/uu93/%E2%80%A6

it took about an hour before it was set. when i woke up, my hand was in a splint. My index finger and middle finger was swollen and numb but i AM able to move it. my ring finger is a little bit tingly but i can feel also swollen. my pinky is fine. my thumb is in the splint too and it is numb and nonstop tingly and i can move it. Do you think it will heal? if so, how long? btw im 14yo. Two docs says its normal because i damaged a certain nerve. if i sqeeze my finger it takes a couple of seconds before it turns pink again. Again VERY swollen. toughest thing i ever been through

THANKS ALOT!

First of all the tingling sensation is normal with broken bones. Give it a little bit of time and it should go away. The tingling and the skin turning pink after a couple seconds are because of poor circulation of blood to your fingers. Since your arm and hand are swollen, it's harder for the blood to move quickly through it. As long as the skin turns pink again (even if it's a few seconds later) then you're all set. The normal test for capillary refill is 2 seconds so that means within 2 full seconds the skin should return to it's normal color. This is usually tested by pressing on one of your finger nails.

Ok, thats one hell of a break! The numbness is probably caused by nerve damage from the break. If you've ever seen a pick you'll know that your arms and hands are full of nerves, and a break that severe would certainly damage or even severe atleast one. This means the numbness could be permanent. Sorry. But after you do physiotherapy some feeling may return, for now just sit back and wait for yourself to heal :) Good luck!

Try getting it set awake with no pain killer.. haha. Anyways, it is normal.

I broke my wrist and the same thing happened to me, it just takes getting used to.

That bad of a break might take a while to heal i think i wore my cast for about 3 months.

yours might be Double or Triple.

    Hope i helped!
