Why is my computer screen wierd colors??!?

So I shut my computer down earlier and it was working fine. Now I turn it on, and everything has a wierd purple or green tint to it. It wasn't banged or anything! For instance, when something is supposed to appear black, it appears green and pixlely instead with two whit lines going through it. My yahoo page looks kind of purplish. It's similar to when a video is scrambled. I've almost had it with this thing. I just paid $300 to have it professionally re-booted and cleaned and it was working fine for the last 3 months. I'm beginning to think that there is some kind of scam going on with computers so you will have to buy a new one every 2 years. It's really pissing me off!!

There may be something wrong with your graphics card. One way you could troubleshoot it to rule out the monitor would be to connect it to a different computer to see if you have the same problem (bring your monitor over a friend's house, or have a friend bring over their laptop if you don't have another PC).

You may want to update your graphics card drivers as well. To see what graphics card you're using, you could use software like Belarc Advisor, then go to manufacturer's web site and look for a Drivers/Downloads/Support section for your model graphics card and download/install drivers appropriate to your OS.

If you rule out the monitor and updating your drivers doesn't help, you're probably going to have to swap out some hardware to see where the problem lies. [Edit: Goat Rider's suggestion is good though -- swap out cables if you can, and make certain all of the cable connections are snug and secure.] If you have an integrated graphics card then you probably would be best off with a motherboard since the graphics card is a part of the motherboard. If you have an independent graphics card you can replace just that part. Replacing the graphics card would not be too difficult (you would need to buy/acquire a new one of course), but replacing the motherboard is something that you probably would not want to do as a novice.

You could try reformatting your system and reinstalling Windows 7, but I really doubt that's going to solve your problem and it'll be somewhat of a hassle (you'll have to back up all your data, reinstall all of your software, though ninite.com makes reinstalling a lot of sortware pretty easy) and re-update Windows, etc. though it's not very difficult.

And, generally speaking, the services provided by the likes of the Geek Squad, etc. aren't worth it -- usually you can do the same stuff yourself by installing some free antivirus/anti-malware software, like Avast and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (however, it is unlikely that a malware infection is your problem here), or at worst, reformatting your system, which as I said before, is a bother, but not very difficult. Definitely don't spend $300 on computer service again unless that amount includes hardware replacements -- you can get a new (albeit low-end) computer for that much on sale.

    Good luck.

Well, I almost have the same problem. My brother stabbed my monitor, and not until earlier today did I find out it can't be fixed. I have to buy a new monitor. I am not a computer person, but one thing I do know if that your screen MIGHT just have had a magnet put next to it. Once, I held a magnet up to the monitor and it stayed pink and green for like 2 weeks. I don't understand technology. I really hope that anything else is wrong with it besides the screen being cracked, because spending 200+ on something that could have been avoided really sucks.

Once I had a screen that everything looked really purple, it turned out that the VGA cable connecting the monitor was damaged and the wire that sends the Green pixels was shorting out.

Must be a ghost with a baseball bat in your house then. Your screen IS broken and needs replacing period. Someone either stepped on, sat on or kicked it. Next time ou get one, READ the manual on how to properly take care of it. These are delicate tools. Not toys for 6 year olds.
