Here's my problem with America?
I don't really have one, but I do wonder why the President isn't directly elected: one vote for one vote. Why do you use electoral colleges instead of a direct vote. This is what I have been told by an American but I have no way of knowing if it's true.

Europeans never understand the very American underlying principles of states rights and how those concepts are folded into America's representative democracy
They just don't get it.
We are a collection of states, with their own representation. We are not a collection of individuals when it comes to national elections.

Originally it was logistically impossible. You couldn't get everyone's vote when most settlers lived days from civilization and there was no means knowing where anyone was or how many.
Also, by using an electoral college, smaller less populated areas are more fairly represented. Going by popular vote would mean high-population states (NY,CA) would decide the outcome every time. This would not be good since those lunatics DO NOT represent the interests & goals of legitimate citizens.

I hate the smugness that Americans tend to have when they think we Europeans dont understand the American voting system. I assure you we are far brighter than you make us out to be. In fact it is Americans who never get it when the words Socialism and Communism are used so frequently by Americans but they have NO idea about the concept of either.
Furthermore, the pathetic idea that Britain and other countries in Europe do not have freedom of speech is total rubbish and American propaganda. No wonder people despise America when it gets so loudmouthed and big headed over such an issue. What America fails to accept is the principle of incitement to hatred. We therefore curb the excessess of people who condemn and condone violence on the streets. The only bit of free speech Americans have that Europeans do not is the ability to spread fear, hatred and incitment to kill, openly and without hinderance. If that is what you Americans enjoy doing, then you are welcome to your little freedom of speech issue. The rest of us live in a civilised world where fellow human beings are considered far more than you consider your own.
If your problem with America is only about how the President aquires office, then you really dont have a problem with America.

The UK PM isn't elected at all by the voters, we elect MPs and the party with the most seats put the person their MPs elect into power.
- How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

the UK doesn't have that either. Infact our PM is not elected by the populace at all. he is elected by the party leadership based on whether the queen can install a majority parliament. Gordon Brown was PM despite NEVER winning a public election.

A system designed by the ruling elite to keep themselves in power regardless the will of the people.

Whoever told you that are lying. The president made out of metal - he is actually a robot that is used to control them. It does not matter who they vote for because they are all robots.
