What baby furniture is necessary and what is not?
there's so much in the stores now..... What has worked for you and your baby?
Since we are adopting from the fostercare system we need to know what the basic necessaries are so when we have our homestudy we are successful.

The pack n play by graco is awesome! Changing table isn't really necessary. I'm buying a crib, pack n play (love it!), a swing/bouncy seat duo also by graco and a high chair. So many pieces are duos or multifunctioning, its somewhat easy to choose furniture to buy.

A crib and dresser would be mandatory to have I would think. Anything else is not absolutely needed.
Also with the crib make sure it isn't a recalled one, and the mattress is tight in there.
Added things would be a rocking chair/glider chair (very useful to have), a changing table (not necessary, and I have no idea how much i will use mine-but others have said not to bother with one).
For the home study I advice setting up the crib with some neutral bedding make it as prepared as possible.
You'll need the obvious lighting and stuff for any room as well so don't over look that.
PLUS-safety features, plug covers and stuff you want those in place!
Plug covers and baby gates that attach to the wall (not the removable ones) are needed (they prefer to see the gates screwed to the wall vs the other types).
Best of luck for the home study!

Crib, dresser, changing table, rocking chair. I have to disagree with those who say changing tables are useless. I always change my daughter's diaper there. Yes we may be playing in the living room but she knows that when she lays down there it is to get a diaper change. My changing table is really a dresser type thingy that is being used as a changing table now, but ash will be able to use it later in life after we pass the diaper stage.

You really don't need any furniture. It's all just for convenience. Even cribs are just convenience items. Babies will sleep anywhere, you could lay them on the floor to sleep and they would be happy. You could put their clothes in a closet. You could change their diaper on the floor.
But of course, I like convenience items so I bought a dresser and a crib and that's it. Rocking chairs are helpful also for those long nights. Do not waste money on a bassinet, changing table or baby bath tub.

The one piece I found to be completely unnecessary was a changing table. You really only use it when you are in that particular room, and most of the time you aren't hanging out in the baby's room. The Glider Rocking chairs are wonderful. Some other useful items are bouncer chairs, baby swings, and bassinet ( you don't NEED the bassinet, but it sure does come in handy when the baby is a newborn). You will also need a crib and at least one dresser.

A lot of the things that we got for our daughter we're kind of pointless! But the things that i have that i use several times a day : a crib of course, changing table and a dresser!

A crib and a dresser maybe? Our crib was about $600 and the stuff to go with was just as much. I got those little plastic drawers from Walmart and put them in my sons closet...for socks, pants, etc....a changing table is useless, you may use it once and awhile. But you're gonna be changing that baby anywhere and everywhere!

For my first son, I bought it all...but now 7 weeks away from my 2nd child, I bought NOTHING.
ok ok, I will buy a good stroller and car seat, and obvious necesities. But for my son, I breast fed him, and he ended up sleeping in our bed (not always recommended, but worked for us) so his bed, was still brand new when I sold it. hange table, never used it, in fact, his entire room was almost not touched except for his dresser.
So this time around, I have set up a playpen (which is one of the very few things I kept from when my son was a baby, and is again BRAND NEW, as I never used it once. A set of drawers, and a pail (i use reusable diapers).
Although I never bought a really good stroller first time around, I spend lots of money on other furniture I never used. This time, I didnt buy any of that crap, but will buy a really good stroller...still deciding which one.
But if youre doing a home study, you should buy that cra, its fun buying anyways for your first
good luck!!

you dont have to have a changing table i just bought one of the changing table mat things and put it in the crib or on the floor to change diapers get a crib that you can raise and lower the mattress in and skip the cradle/bassinette (babies out grow them too fast for them to be worth buying)
