I remember the famous scene in Porkys, where the boys drilled a peep hole in teh girls locker room showers..and all the girls were sharing the same shower area. But maybey that was just Hollywood. I remember when I was in school, we snuck into the girls locker room at night after a dance, and your right, there were separated walls for showers. I think it boils down to how America has always wanted to treat the girls as "needing to be protected", and feel comfortable in all environments. It is just something that was always done, and never changed.

ones that wear boxers, or board shorts while they shower and then keep a towel around them the whole time while pulling up their boxers, they will realize how retarded they looked once they just shower normal and dress. nobody is staring at your privates, when you are in the shower while wearing your boxers, you saw somebodies private even if it was for a second you did and if you say you never seen somebodies privates when showering in a open shower then you lie...

Girls are expected to be modest and coy and ashamed of their nudity. This is cemented by separating them into stalls in the shower and the toilet. There are no such expectations of boys, and therefore, no stalls.
