how can you polish tarnished silver without using commercial polish?

    You can clean the tarnish off with toothpaste and a wet rag. Just scrub with the toothpaste and rag. Then rinse well under running water.

    Any toothpaste works as long as it's the typical white toothpaste. Gels don't work.

    Check the jewelry counters at your local store. They carry clothes that polish and clean. Great for all silver without mess and nasty smells.

    Make a thick paste of 3 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda with 1 tbs water.

    A product called Tarn Off this is brilliant, for silver that is black it gets it off in a flash , no scrubbing as it is a liquid, i clean all my gold jewellery as well.
