Hot Tub troubleshooting?

I recently tried to get it up an running again after it's been off for a while and it doesn't seem to be working properly. When I power it up, the jets come on along with the circulation pump. When I turn off the jets manually it triggers the breaker and shuts everything off. If I leave the jets running, it seems to stay on just fine. Is this a common problem? What's wrong with it and what is a possible fix?

I wouldn't worry about it much, hun, if I were you. It's probably just the chlorine you use or the brand of water you place inside the hot tub. Some brands of water tend to easily rise to higher temperatures than others. It's definitely better if you use water brands such as Poland Spring since its composition allows for easier consistency of its temperature and it doesn't tend to boil rapidly. On the other hand, it could be the chlorine you're using, hun. Maybe try calling in a plumber if you can't detect what's wrong.

Which breaker did you switch off and on? There should be a breaker in your house panel, and also a ground fault breaker near the hot tub. The one near the tub should be close enough to be easily (handily) shut down for service, and it's also possible that there's a breaker inside the tubs service panel. If you lost power to the tub, it sure sounds like a tripped ground fault. Sometimes the gfci (ground fault circuit interrupter) can be pretty touchy, tripping easily, without having any actual problems with the equipment.

Breakers Trip for a reason. Sometimes it could be a weak breaker, but not the most probable situation. It sounds like one of the motors is having a hard time on start up. Motors are rated on 2 points - Starting amps and running amps. If one is going bad and trying to start simultaneously with the other, the amp draw to the breaker could be exceeded. The only way to figure this out is to take amp meter draws at the main power into the hot tub. Then check the starting amps on each motor and start individually. If either motor is spiking over the rated starting amp rating it should be replaced. Either way, unless you are familial with electricity and comfortable tearing into the mechanics of your hot tub, it should be left for a qualified technician. Remember, The more Amperage going through a wire, the hotter the wire gets. Heat means possibility of fire, so DO address this problem. Good Luck

If I was you, I'd just leave it and get a qualified person to take a look at it. I've seen so many cases where hot tubs have caused devastating fires!
