can you soak dark clothes in bleach if using cold water?

I was told that you can but it has to be cold water...and that you have to let the washer fill up with the bleach before you start adding clothes and to not add the clothes before and they will be ok (brighten but not change colors). is this true? I wanted to ask so i dont ruin a load of dark clothes if not. thanks

No! It will fade them and possibly spot them.=)

I agree with all the answers above. The only bleach you can use is colour safe bleach to brighten up clothes. If you use normal house hold bleach you will ruin your clothes

NEVER add regular bleach to dark clothing; water temperature make no difference. There are special kinds of "bleach" specifically for dark/colored clothes.
