I messed up my freshman year... Will I still get into a decent college?
I'm currently a sophomore, and I'm starting to really regret last year. I did really terrible. This year I've been getting almost all A's except for one class. (Chem; I got an 87 one quarter)
I've been thinking about what I want to go to college for and where I want to go.
Last year my grades were:
Global Honors- 85, 78, 85, 73.
English Honors- 85, 77, 78, 92.
Biology- 85, 79, 65, 82.
Algebra- 94, 87, 86, 89.
Spanish 2- 95, 90, 87, 90.
**I got an 80 on my Bio regents and an 89 on the Algebra Regents**
I know I did really bad, and I regret it now, but I'm really wondering if it will effect me in the future? This year i've been doing much better... My lowest grade has been an 87 this year, and if I continue getting straight A's; do you think I can get into a good college?
For my bachelor's I plan on going for pre-med, and then obviously, i'll eventually go into medical school.
If i go to an average college for my bachelor's and get good grades, could I get into an Ivy League school for my masters?
Btw, what good colleges could I go to for my bachelors? I live in New York, and I plan on staying here.. A college in New York City would be preferred. (:
Thanks!! :)

Tell you something by honesty. College isn't just going to look at one year, they look at all over year average, if they see you have taken up more of your responsibility and improved your grades. They are going to be quite impress if you keep it up.
Sounds to me you're focus on college, if you really want to look for something your type, and explore different types of college, go to www.collegeboard.com and go to college search. It will help you look for your type. Of course, leave out the big details like amount of years of college, what type of colleges, just click the state you want - which should narrow down you want -, don't limit how far, just put lots of major you have/interested in, don't worry about the cost of school - just ignore it, and just make everything available to types of college until you get the results. ;)
Once you get to the results, it should show you many colleges in your type of location. You can look into details to each college you click onto and explain what you need.
Secondly, be sure you have a lot of community services anytime between now to the end of your Senior year. Colleges can be serious about that.
If you really want to know your chances of getting into Ivy League school, check with the site I told you and go to the search by college names and it'll show up with the name you typed up.
However, go with college that has the courses you want, something that goes for your interests, the right setting for you, and try visiting before making decisions.
So, right now, get involve the courses at your high school and grab any opportunities that comes your way! =D If they have BOCES program and they have the courses you like there, take that opportunity and make yourself a hard working, good student, good leadership, good teamwork, and dedicating yourself to hard work. They have amazing awards there that you'd be surprised. Even Skills USA which is a lot of fun to join, however, you get to learn your skills of communication, competition, and explore to new places if you get the chances. They have lovely opportunity to students who loves to work with real experience.
Not only that, you have to prepare yourself to study for SAT or ACT test that you will have to take that colleges will look for. Study as much as you can, learn from all your classes, and learn vocabularies as much as possible! The higher your score, college will look to see where you belong in their place. If you have at least over 20 for ACT, you're good, but the higher the better. ACT scoring is total of 36. I'm not sure about SAT, but I believe over 500 would be good and I believe the range of their score is somewhere around 1600. However, each college is different.
Anyway, I hope you plan out well for your college and everything. Oh, yes, discuss this with your parents so they can help you to be prepared and know what you can afford for colleges. I would recommend going after scholarships and grants! Get anything, do not rely on loans because they would come with interests and it'll increase and hard to pay back if you don't get a career and it'll be impossible to pay back. So, find scholarship in anyway you can! Fastweb.com is one of the best recommended one, but check that with your guidance counselor. ;)

One so-so year, and it being your first year in HS, won't prevent you from going to a strong college. So continue on with what you're doing. Try to get into some APs in your best subjects, and some more honors as well.
Med schools only care what you do in college. HS is not material to med school admissions.
Some of the better colleges in the city are Columbia, Barnard, NYU, Fordham, Manhattan College, Wagner College, Hunter, Lehman, and City. Probably in that order.

You can get into a decent college just fine with bad freshman year grades. As long as you have an upward trend in your grades and do well in your soph/junior/senior years, they will not significantly hinder your chances of being accepted.
The more well-known colleges in NYC include NYU and Cooper Union (only engineering and art) ... you can go to collegeboard.com and search by state/zip code to find more that are in/near the city.
Yes, you can go to an Ivy League school for a masters program after getting your bachelors from a non-Ivy college -- as long as you do well in undergrad! (FYI, you don't need a masters degree before you apply to med school.)

That depends on you. You have to focus and check out as hard as that you can. I know you feel that's not possible but you have got to get able for the future. If you happen to do well sufficient you'll definitely get right into a just right institution. Think about it. Who's going to college, the freshman you or the senior you? When you do good as a Junior and Senior that may be pleasant. They count the most.
