down comforter feathers ALWAYS come out?

So a year ago I got this really nice down comforter with a high thread count but feathers would come out EVERYWHERE! I thought it was maybe just that type of comforter so I recently bought another one and SAME THING! Looking online, people say there could be holes but this has happened to both comforters - is this just something that happens with all of them? I also looked into a duvet cover, but I think the only way that would work is if it zippers shut instead of just ties or buttons...because then feathers could still escape I'm thinking. If not, I guess I will just have to go with down-alternative :( I know a lot of people with down comforters who dont experience this, anyone have advice

You're buying duvets with low thread counts. 350 is MINIMUM, and higher is better. More money, but you get exactly what you pay for. I have 2, with only a stray feather now and than, and 5 down jackets with NEVER a stray feather.

A cover will do nothing. If anything, you'll get more feathers, faster, as thread counts on covers is usually less than the duvet.

Toss it, and buy better quality, or alternative

I just got a DOWNLITE down comforter for Christmas and I don't have any problems with the feathers coming out of the comforter at night. Maybe you should try a different brand?

If you just wanted to keep your original comforter and buy a duvet DOWNLITE also has a selection of zipper duvet covers, that way the feathers stay in one place.

Check out http://www.shopdownlite.com/ for either a new comforter or a zipper duvet! You are guaranteed good quality for your money.

(Old question but answering it in case other people find it like I just did): You don't need to replace the comforter. You can get a cover with a tight enough weave to block the feathers. For one idea, do a search on "Dust Mite & Allergy Control" cover. Cover it with that, and you can also put your old cover over that if you like its style better.

The thread count of the covering is not dense enough to seal the feathers in. It has to be at least 350. Higher is desirable. There's no fix for this.

O.K. Sarah! Are you buying Duck Down, Goose Down or Chicken Down? Or are you getting goosed by your down comforter! Sorry Sarah..was just kidding you? Not sure how to keep the sharp points of the feathers from escaping unless you put the down in Canvas covers. In Germany...they sleep on them nightly as a bed and hang them out the windows each day to air out? Maybe you can re-title your question and see if some German woman...may know the answer?

I had that problem with mine. I was like getting up in the morning and wondering if the ducks had been in bed with me, And was half expecting to find Duck eggs in the bed Lmao And after time found all feathers would go to one bit of quilt and ended up freezing . So I now use non duck down these days

We had a feather come out of ours every few days, we just threw them away and tried to be gentle with the comforter.
