Improving 55 meter dash time?

Im a sophomore, and it is my first year running indoor track. In the 55, i ran a 7.2 with the lazer timer. What can i do to improve my time? I assume that you need to lift weights, but I really have no clue what i am doing.

For the 50 yard dash your start is the most important along with learn how to accelerate and relax while you run. Weight lifting is important you can also do resistance bands and work with them for start drills, bounding, one leg hops, squats and lateral movements along with hip flexor and abductor drills. Look at Runner's World.com or try training with your coach or teammates. Go for a balanced program in which you exercise both muscles flex and opposite muscles for instance quads and hamstrings. Form drills is also important so practice with your coach or look online for instance on youtube or running times.com. Also learn to peak perform and learn what Olympic athletes are doing for the edge such as running in the pool doing short intervals. Good luck!
