Looking for a family friendly city to live near Modesto California.?

California's central valley, and more specifically Modesto is known for being a conservative family friendly area. Avoid Stockton to the north, only 30 miles from Modesto and about the same size, but a world apart and not so family friendly. Turlock & Merced to the south of Modesto also offer a good environment for raising a family. Modesto however, being the larger city in the area has more resources & transportation options than other smaller communities. Keep in mind though, California has the highest cost of living, most regulations and more people than any other state in the country so carefully check your ability to survive here. Gas costs today $3.69 a gallon, a one bedroom apartment runs at least 800 to 1000 a month, electricity costs over $200 a month for most homes, car registration runs over $500 a year for many vehicles etc etc. Best of luck!

I don't know why you would pick Modesto. Escalon is a good choice north of Modesto.

Oakdale is a hick town to the East.

Read up on Modesto before you move. Not as bad as Stockton but it has both good and bad sections. Choose carefully.

If you don't have to be in Modesto proper look into the Foothills. Sonora, and Jamestown Small town, Scenic, historic with good schools.

About 65 miles from Down town Modesto but a world away. Travel out west and in California tend to be longer drives that East coast and Midwest people are used to. You'll see when you get here.
