How can I tell if this German bayonet is authentic?

I have this Old German bayonet that I found last year. After a little research, I found that it was used to be equipped with a German K98 Mauser during WWII. It's a little dull and rusty, so I need to know how to see if it's authentic or not. Any tips on how to or any useful info on this piece would be greatly helpful.

I do think it is quite unlikely that someone would fake a WW II bayonet, especially the ones for the Mauser 98. That would be as stupid as faking a coke tin.

Mauser K 98 was the gun most built in WWII. the same goes for most related equiptment.

Faking an halfwhat authentic looking bayonett would cost A LOT more then simply buying one.

To be totally sure: there must be production marks on it. Look for it and then compare to list on internet. Maybe that way you can even trace what year it was made exactly - as often german weapons had serial numbers.

I would have to see it. Look for this S84/98 III engraved near the handle.
