If I was to connect one end of a power cord to another end of a power cord, and plugged the two inputs into a wall socket, what would happen?

The blowing up in your face is an option. It may also just trip the circuit breaker. If you don't properly ground your self you may also get a good little jolt. Anyway, good luck with that.
