Can I read ebooks on my computer with free software ?

I have a laptop with Windows 7 on it and as would love to know if it is possible to read ebooks on it or would I need a Kindle or something like that ? If I need software is it possible to get any free or extremely cheaply ?

Thanks in advance for any advice

You can use a web-based Kindle app to read Kindle books. You'll find that on the Kindle page on Amazon. As far as other books go, you can see samples on google.com/books

Many libraries are starting to use the Overdrive Media console to sign out books. I like that a lot because it's a free ebook of a current title, and after 2 weeks it expires and I don't have to pay a fine!

Check your local library for that or visit overdrive.com.

    Good luck!

Source(s): Personal experience, www.overdrive.com , Amazon Kindle for PC site ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link... ) and I've been reading ebooks for years.

Sure. Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Borders all have free apps that you can load onto your PC and use to read the eBooks they sell.

While ebooks are not free, e-Reader applications for Windows are.
