Religion has affected so much through history. Do you think it should be taught in public schools?

The answer is obvious in private, religious schools, most of which have been founded to teach the vital topic of religion. It is more complex in public or state schools.

Every literate person needs some knowledge of the history, creeds, and literature of religion. This is known as cultural literacy. For example, everyone should know something about Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad.

However, promulgating any particular religion in public schools would violate religious freedom by means of establishing a religion. For example, if Islam were established, we "infidels" would be indoctrinated in a false faith, as Obama was in Indonesia.

    Cheers,

In europe religion is sometimes thought in state Schools, but there have been many troubles among different "Believers", expecially between Catholics and Protestants. In my view, in a Country where Religion is generally seen as "very important" by most of the people, unlike in other nations if someone wanted to "teach religion" soon or later he would confront with the fanatic sides of Faith, that are very diffused thorough US people.

Do you think. i.e, about the consequences of a lesson on " predestination"?

Probably like 1 time a week, but I don't think it should be a subject with assignments, that's just unfair. If they just told what religion was about, I'd think it's fine.

I'm an Atheist and at my old high school, they taught religion and we had to do assignments, write essays. I did well, but mostly because I bull shtted my way through but it was boring.

Interesting question. A brief education on the beliefs and histories of multiple religions, in my view, is very welcome in schools but not as an exam subject. There should be no prayers or endorsement of an individual religion. <3

You can learn the effects of religion without being taught that religion.

their is a reason church and state are separate and their is a reason public schools don't teach about a false god if you want your children to be taught about religion then pay to have them go to a private christian school

yes in my opinion i think it should be taught at schools because children / teenagers (like me ) should be taught about different religions and why we should respect there rules . it probably will always will be taught at schools so there is no point saying anymore .

Yes, for sure! I go to a Catholic high school and every year we have to take religion. For your freshman, sophomore and senior years, we learn Catholicism. Junior year, we learn all kinds of religions and it's really interesting.
