What forms do I need to take to the tax man?

This year has been a busy one. I bought a house before April 2010, started a new job, bought a few new appliances, replaced a few windows in my house, bought an a/c,a new washer and a dryer, and put my son in daycare.

What forms do I need to bring to the tax man?

You tax man will need information to support deductions and credits you hope to take.

Bring your closing settlement form. Purchasers of conventional homes should include a copy of Form HUD-1, Settlement Statement, or other settlement statement, showing all parties' names, property address, sales price and date of purchase. The document often also includes certain deductible expenses such as pro-rated property taxes, points paid, and/or interest.

The residential energy credit, unfortunately, does NOT apply to all appliances or all home improvements. The credit applies to improvements such as adding insulation, energy efficient exterior windows and energy-efficient heating and air conditioning systems. You're out of luck, I'm afraid, on the washer and dryer purchases. Bring your energy star paperwork showing these are qualified energy efficient items. For information on energy-efficient products, visit the U.S. Department of Energy's Energystar Web site; not all Energy Star products qualify for the tax incentive.

Bring the dollar figure you paid for your son's daycare expenses, the name and address of the care provider and his/her SSN or EIN so the tax man can complete the form 2441 accurately.

    Hope this helps!

The government just wants to get it while the gettin' is good. If most men weren't so HARD UP right now they'd ALL be getting refunds!
