Can A Computer Monitor Be Used as a HDTV?

I have a Dell U2410 24inch monitor. The specs say it can display 1080p, and it has an HDMI in-port. Obviously, the monitor does not have a TV tuner, but could I hook it up to my TimeWarner Cable DVR and watch recorded shows using the DVR's tuner? The Dell service rep suggested I needed "a special adapter" but she couldn't clarify what she meant by that.

I appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.

Yes, you can use it as a HDTV. I'm not sure what dell rep were saying. But heres what im saying, you can connect it to your DVR. Just as you would a TV. Make sure the TimeWarner Cable DVR has an HDMI Out though.

In theory, if the screen has a standard HDMI input and supports 1080p and your DVR has HDMI out then linking them together should work...

Can't think what the adapter Dell suggested would be for. Probably just them trying to get some more cash off you for nowt!

It should work fine. You just might not get sound on the monitor.
