What's the word for.................?
I'm looking for a word that means 'appointing someone as a figure head' Basically this guy has been given the title 'Managing Director' but he doesnt actually finction as one. It goes something like this:
We hereby confim that Mr. So-So has been ....-ously appointed Managing Director etc.
Thanks
@Marcus, I was thinking the same thing but it doesn't quite fit. Thanks anyway.

emeritus = retired or honorably discharged from active professional duty, but retaining the title of one's office or position: dean emeritus of the graduate school; editor in chief emeritus.
honorary (makes the most sense)
titular

I agree with Steve -- honorary sounds like the best fit. There's also titular or posthumously, depending on the circumstances.

Ceremoniously?
