Adding a IDE hard drive in this configuration?

I have a desktop PC and I want to add a second IDE drive to it. The primary hard drive is SATA connected. The DVD drive is connected to the master end of the IDE cable, with the slave end not connected. Do I connect the IDE drive to the slave end? And to what configuration (master/slave) should I set the jumpers on both the DVD drive and IDE drive once I have them connected?

Each IDE cable needs one master, so the DVD drive is already doing that role. Just set the new IDE drive jumper to "slave" and you should be fine. Assuming you can stretch the ribbon cable to both your hard drive and DVD, that is.

I would put the HDD as Master, DVD as Slave, but it's up to you. The jumpers should reflect this. So (my configuration):

HDD: Master (or "Master with Slave Present" if that's an option)

    DVD: Slave.

It doesn't matter which goes on which connector, just remember, that the red wire on the ribbon usually goes near the power port (DO NOT put the ribbon cable in upside down)

You can manually address which drive is the master and slave in BIOS, regardless.
