Will you be watching this episode of "Super Nanny"?

next Friday, Feb. 11?

""Super Nanny Episode – “Merrill Family” – While Marine Major Chris Merrill is stationed overseas for a year in Afghanistan, Mom Beckie, 33, is fighting another battle on the home front with their four young children. Garrett , 4 and Elena, 4, are cousins they adopted from Guatemala; Eddie, 6 and Lydia, 4, were adopted just three months ago from Ghana. Beckie tries to balance her desire for attachment with all the children with the firmness required to discipline them. Eddie and Lydia, the newest family members, grapple with frustration over still learning the English language and a great fear of the dark, since in Ghana there were real-life fears of violence at nighttime in their community."

"All the children feel free to run outside at will and ignore Mom, bedtime is fraught with turmoil, and mealtimes can be a battle zone. Compounding these challenges is the fact that Mom, at times, feels overwhelmed, outnumbered and at her limit, and very much on her own while her husband is away. Can Supernanny bring peace to this Camp Pendleton home? Find out on “Supernanny,” FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.""

I don't even have to watch it.

All I have to do is drive a few hours to where my parent's home is and stop on by my best friend's parents home. They have 6 children from china all under the age of 12. Her mother is an emergency room physician who works the night shift, and her stepfather runs the city's 911 call center during the night shift. So who watches the children? They hire an au pair (basically a foreign exchange nanny). When my best friend comes home to visit...they kids beg her to take them back with her. They don't get enough individualized attention, the youngest ones are struggling with learning English...the older ones can't help because they were not encouraged to continue to speak their Chinese dialect so they have forgotten it. It is a huge mess. Did I mention that her step father and mother are in their late 50's and diabetic and overweight? When they die they are leaving 6 adoptive children, one who has clearly definable RAD, to be looked after by the three older biological children who all live in different parts of the country.

Did I mention they changed all their names, even though the younger ones did not want to? Nothing like forcing Riley, Hayden, Joey, Wendy, and Kira down your child's throat to welcome them.

I don't think people think things through when they make adoption plans that involve large groups of kids and absentee or working parents. I think if you have to know your realistic limits...not just want you want your limits to be.

I think mom becky wants to be a mom so bad that she went out and got herself some kids.

the reason she has no control over the kids is because they don't understand where they are

and they probably miss their home country and the they don't speak the language.

and I will not be watching supper nanny

I probably will, although that show frequently frustrates me because the moms are so poorly trained.

I usually like international adoption stories, especially from war-ravaged areas, but wow, taking on 4 at once was not doing anyone any favors. I agree with the person who said the hubby should come home on a hardship pass if possible.

Nope. I don't watch the show to start with, so I probably wouldn't seek out the one episode that would make my head explode. :-/

No, I usually don't watch Super Nanny. However, if I did watch this episode, it would not be because of the adoption angle but because she is living on Camp Pendleton which is where I was stationed when I was a Marine.

Frankly, instead of asking for help from Super Nanny, she should call the base chaplain or her husband's command and have him sent him for hardship reasons.

Seriously, what were they thinking adopting 2 children from Ghana, who have already lost parents due to violence, when the new father is in danger of being killed in Afghanistan.

  • Friday night watching an idiot reality show? I don't think so.
