Jehovah witnesses, why Jehovah witnesses instead of God witnesses?

Why not God's witnesses instead of Jehovah? even you think it has the same meaning, but why Jehovah, other Christians don't use that word when they talk about God, in most times they use the word "God"

Jesus and also the apostles named Christians after God and using God's name. Even in the Lord's prayer we are told to put the hallowing or praising of God's name first.

    Matthew 6:9 KJV

9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

    John 17 KJV

6I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

    John 5 KJV

43I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

    Acts 15 KJV

14Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

    Rev 3 KJV

12Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

    Revelation 14 KJV

1And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

    Hebrews 13 KJV

15By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

God is only a title, not a name. The god of this world is Satan the Devil, not Jehovah. But Jehovah is the true God.

    2 COr. 4 KJV

3But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

    John 17 KJV

3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

So if one merely worships "God", one could well be serving and worshipping his greatest enemy, Satan the Devil.

Well the same way that we have a personal name and would like to be called by our name instead of Man, Woman, Boy & so forth is the same way that God feels. Psalms 83:18 says "May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah,You alone are the Most High over all the earth." The fact that his name is mentioned in the Bible shows God wants his name to be known & since we are his witnesses or followers, we are called Jehovah's Witnesses.

Why not Jehovah that is His name. If you were talking about someone, wouldn't you use their name. Jehovah's name alone is powerful and he wants people to Know and to Use it. Jesus used it! He didn't refer to him as God or Father all the time. Jesus said taught his disciples to pray and in this prayer he included the important things we should pray and focus on.(Matthew 6:9) say "Our Father in heaven let your name be sanctified"....it goes on but that is the best point to bring out bc it brings to question What Is Gods Name?

We worship God and He has a name. When we use it we are Proud and Confident. We represent Him and when we do so faithfully (bc satan is trying to ruin Jehovah's name) we take sides with Jehovah as Jesus did and that makes the heavens rejoice and us JW's soo happy!! :D

More importantly it proves satan the lying scum he is!!!!

    God is a title...like president

    Jehovah is a name....like Obama

    (1 Corinthians 8:5)

5 For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,”

    (Psalm 83:18)

8 That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

We are proud to be identified with God's name, Jehovah.

    (Isaiah 43:10,11)

10 “YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11 I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”

Interesting that you would point out that other Christians don't use God's name. His name, and what it represents, is so important to him that his son, Jesus, when teaching his disciples how to pray mentioned his father's name as the most important point. Some people call this the "Our Father Prayer" (Matthew 6:9)

Jesus was proud to tell his father that he had made his name known.

(John 17: 26) 26 And I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them.”

Learning about Jehovah and his son means our lives, (John 17:3) so it behooves us to study the Bible to get the answers to excellent questions like yours, right?

Jehovah God wanted us to use his name. Matthew 6:9, Jesus told us that we should pray: "Our Father in the heavens, let your NAME be SANCTIFIED." Also Isaiah 43:10 also brings out that Jehovah said, "You are my WITNESSES." God is a Title. Even with Arabs. A good dictionary will show you, “Allah” is a shortened form of the Arabic term meaning “the god", this is not a name. The title “God” is neither personal nor distinctive. In the Hebrew Scriptures the same word (ʼElo‧him′) is applied to Jehovah, the true God, and also to false gods. The Imperial Bible-Dictionary says: “It is everywhere a proper name, denoting the personal God and him only; whereas Elohim partakes more of the character of a common noun, denoting usually, indeed, but not necessarily nor uniformly, the Supreme. . . . The Hebrew may say the Elohim, the true God, in opposition to all false gods; but he never says the Jehovah, for Jehovah is the name of the true God only. He says again and again my God . . . ; but never my Jehovah, for when he says my God, he means Jehovah. He speaks of the God of Israel, but never of the Jehovah of Israel, for there is no other Jehovah. He speaks of the living God, but never of the living Jehovah, for he cannot conceive of Jehovah as other than living.”

Jehovah is Gods name(ps83:18) and he wants us to use it. No one calls us girl boy lady man, those are titles , Jehovah allowed Adam to name the animals, we have names, what more important for God to have a name too. Jehovah is our father and the scriptures says" I will take a people for my name, they will be called by my name" JEHOVAH WITNESSES were the people that's called by God name. Satan is a god ( he's the god of this system of things) so saying god witness that could be anybody, Jehovah is Gods name and we represent our father so it's fitting we use his name.

God is a title and like the title "president" can refer to several different people--Jehovah is a personal name and refers only to the highest being in the universe (Psalm 83:18). We are commissioned to make Jehovah known to all his creation and we use his personal name to do that. That way there is no confusion as to whom we are referring. Other Christians do lots of other things we also don't agree with. They misrepresent Jehovah in both words and actions. We love him and want to clear up all the confusion.

Jehovah is God's name. God is just a title people use and "Lord" is also a title for him.

Just as God son Jesus came to the earth to sanctify Gods name, Jesus said @ Matthew 5:9 “YOU must pray, then, this way:“‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.

God's name PS 83:18, Jehovah...so we spread the Kingdom message letting people know who we are talking about (Jehovah), and Jehovah even calls us his Witnesses.

Isaiah 43:10-11, “YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11 I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”

    Hope this helps.

Jehovah is God...others do not use it because they don't know that...if they or you research it you will see that God does have a name just like you have a name.....if you do not see it in your bible...you will have to look back at older bibles Psalms 83:18 is one but there are others...this isn't anything that was made up.....

    Exodus 6:3

    Psalm 83:18

    Tells us God's Personal Name.

At Isaiah 43:10-12 we hear God speaking and naming His people. i hope you read it.

Jesus at Revelation 1:5 is also called 'the faithful and true witness'.

Just think of what a witness does in a court situation. We thus testify in Behalf of the true God Jehovah as Isaiah 43 says.

God is His title, but he wants us to use His name as Psalm 83 says.

Jesus in John chapter 17 shows that making God's name known was important to him. At Matthew 6:9 in the Lord's prayer , he taught us that we should be praying that 'God's name be sanctified."

At 1 Corinthians 8:5,6 Jesus disciples acknowledged that there are MANY called 'gods' and many called 'lords' -but they said verse 6: "There is actually to us one God, the Father, .....and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ....."

Using God's name sets Him apart. For there is not another like Jehovah the True God!
