I had a great party at my house and my parents are pretty mad. but it was worth it. the only problem is that it was really rainy that night, so my basement carpet is really muddy. whats the best way to clean it up and also the least expensive way. i was thinking of hiring Stanley Steemer. But I also heard that i could rent similar stuff from Home Depot and it would be cheaper. whats the best way and most cost efficient way to clean a muddy carpet?

There are several dissimilar cleaning methods to choose from such as Steam Cleaning, Dry Cleaning, Shampoo, Foam Cleaning and Bonnet Cleaning. Most of them are like Do-It-Yourself types.
Removing stains from your carpet can be an overwhelming task for many. However, it is not really as bad as it sounds. There is always a solution, even if the stains are really tough, as the ones from coffee or red wine could be easily removed from your carpet.
There are simply so many ways you can do it. I can hardly elaborate all of them but you might search the methods i just mentioned. And yeah, if it all fails, there definitely is the carpet cleaning service done by professionals.

You definitely can rent/do it yourself for a cheaper price, but the rental units do not have the same amount of lift that a commercial, truck-mount. The "lift" is the amount of suction that a machine has and it is measured in inches of lift. The more dirt or even dirty water that is left in the carpet, the lifespan of the carpet will be less. Call a professional. Your money will be wisely spent...

as a professional carpet cleaner I can,t help it but to notice how most ppl are soccered in to renting a machine in order to do it them selves my advice to you is always hire a carpet cleaner, preferably someone with a truckmounted system. ofcourse you should always shop around, the truth is most carpet cleaners with a truckmounted units are good excellent in what they do. As far as the prices concern you should always go with the average price not too high or not too cheap. That is the best way to deal with any carpet dirt, and it's not as expensive as you think it is.

Pay someone to do it right. It's your parents home so you need to get the carpet back to or better than the original condition. Plus a rental machine means you have to work.

Those rental steamers do not work as well as the truck mounted professional steam cleaners. They can't get the water hot enough to deep clean the carpet.
Call a pro and get it done right.
