Cool places/events to visit in Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania this week?

Hi all! I am female who is about to take a road trip this week from NJ, to KY (traveling through WV and PA). I am just taking this trip for fun, to get out a little, and am in my mid twenties and will be traveling alone.

That said, I would love to know about any amazing spots I shouldn't miss. Also would love to hear about any cool events going on in any of these states in the next week. I should be in KY during the weekend and would love to do/see something cool there.

A bit about what I like:

Friendly people, good southern food, anywhere I can go by myself and be around people at the same time, flea markets, fairs, random events, fundraiser events/dances, antique or bridal shows, old buildings, small towns where people actually hang out in the downtown areas, city's with cool shops and people :)

What Im not so crazy about:

Art galleries, wineries, endless museums or historical sights (although 1 or 2 may be cool), wild party events, hiking, any areas that might be unsafe environments for single females (aka really bad neighborhoods or trails with very few people around)

Okay, I know thats probably way too much info lol! Anyways, if anyone has ANY suggestions at all please let me know! I have no solid plans yet, so I would love to hear about the cool things you guys know about. Thanks!

Hi, I am familiar with a lot of things in Tennessee, but I am most familiar with Middle Tennessee which is what I will tell you about in my answer (I'm not sure whereabouts you'll be in TN, but hopefully this will inspire you to go through the Middle! :) I'll start at the North part of the state and work my way south:

Adams, TN: Just east of Clarksville, this is the home of the notorious Bell Witch. The most documented haunting in American history. This ghost even scared Andrew Jackson! It's a beautiful place to visit, and the tours are good... If you're into the paranormal this is a must see!

Nashville: The Music city! Though it's not ALL country here, there is the Grand Ole Opry, Opry Land Hotel, General Jackson, Parthenon, Country Music Hall of Fame, and the clubs on 2nd Avenue. My favorite place to eat here is Arnold's Country cooking... REAL soul food served cafeteria style. It's only open till 2:30 on weekdays, though. Also... Just east of town is The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson. I know you said to shy away from history, but I used to be a tour guide here. It is 17$ a person, but the tour is well worth the money! There is also Grassmere Zoo... Very nice zoo with a Historic home on the property with a tour as good as the Hermitage! To me, History is a HUGE part of seeing Tennessee, so pardon my historic references! :)

Franklin, TN: A very nice town South of Nashville. It is quite upscale but has a lot of history. The great restaurants down here are Puckett's Grocery, and of course the Loveless Cafe' between Franklin and Nashville! There is also a Civil war Battlefield down there (Battle of Franklin) and the McGavock plantation that "The Widow of the South" was based off of! This is also great horse country!

Murfreesboro, TN: This is my home! Murfreesboro has an absolutely charming little square with a TON of history. Great places to eat here are: City Cafe' (in operation since 1900 -- Good breakfasts!) and the Slick Pig BBQ (Best. Ribs. Ever.) Murfreesboro's east main street is lined with beautiful mansions from the 1830's to the 1920's... I would take my camera and go for a walk! There is also the Oaklands Museum/Mansion, Stones River Battlefield, and Canonsburgh historic village.

Christiana, TN: This town is a ghost town with only 3 buildings just 10 miles South of Murfreesboro. I have to name it, though... As it has the BEST RESTAURANT EVER! Miller's Grocery... TRUE Southern cooking in a 100+ old building that used to be a small grocery store. But just because it's in a ghost town doesn't mean it'll be empty... They serve supper Friday and Saturday 5 - 9, but you'll need to make reservations. Otherwise, they serve lunch 11 - 2 Tuesday - Friday, and a Sunday buffet at the same time. And don't you dare leave without trying the fruit tea and a dessert!

Bell Buckle, TN: This is my dream town. Literally... Not too many people know about it... It is a small Victorian village (only about 400 people live here, tops) 10 miles south of Christiana. The houses here have been kept immaculate, and this is Southern hospitality at its best. It has it's own little restaurant (it's a great place, but I would do Millers!) It also has about 3 to 4 antique stores, and the 'square' (if you can even call it that) is original from 1852 unchanged! Feel free to walk around the whole town as you please! They are used to that, and very proud of their homes and town.

Normandy, TN: Only has about one stop sign and about 100 people! But it is very nice. Just a mile south of it is the Dickel Distillery.... They give tours there and it is the alternative to Jack Daniels! Also want to add... Bell Buckle, Shelbyville, Normandy--All walking horse country! I'm sure you could visit some local farms if you'd like!

Lynchburg, TN: Very nice town nestled in the rolling hills. It's known for the Jack Daniels Distillery of course, tours there are free and very good. There is also a restaurant there called Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding house. The real Miss Mary Bobo ran the restaurant from I think 1900 - 1983. She passed away at 103, and now a relative of hers runs it. It is in an old mansion, and the food is served Family Style. A waitress will keep it from being awkward by telling you great stories, and it is a lot of fun! But it is 19 dollars a person.

There is also Chattanooga of course, but I have not been there for a while! I know more about the small towns. Hopefully this list will get you started, but please continue to search online to find the best places to go. Middle Tennessee is truly the best place on earth. I was born here, raised here, and plan on living here for a long, long time! I hope you have a great trip, and stay safe!

    Places To Visit In Kentucky

Kentucky has also been hit hard with snow this winter. We have been in the single digits the last 1-2 weeks, but warming to the 50s over the weekend. The downside...also the melting snow and the mud. So I'd nix anything in the great outdoors, late spring early summer or mid fall are the best times for that.

Lexington would be a good stop, but to get most of the things you are wanting to do, you'd be better off coming to KY in summer. There isa farmer's market every Saturday in the summer. Some funky shops near UK's campus. Shakespeare in the park. Small towns in the surrounding area have local festivals almost every weekend (Ham Days, Court Days, Berea Craft Festival, Lexington Arts Festival). Keeneland races are every April and October.

Lexington is relatively safe, use common sense and don't go out after dark by yourself.

Go to downtown Wheeling, in northern WV! There's some neat shops downtown. I CAN'T remember what it's called for the life of me, but it's in the Market District (if you can ask someone how to get there) and the shop is purple. It's full of all kinds of witchcraft-type things and "magic" stuff. It's not creepy, but really neat. The lady that owns it is hilarious!

You could eat at The Lator Gator, also in the Market District. It's a creperie, so crepes are their specialty! If you go, get the Last Tango for dessert. BEST EVER.

There's also a ton (about 4) antique stores and a fish market on that same side of town. There's also a river, so you walk right along the waterfront, but it's cold, obviously. haha

Some bars/theaters that may be having events: Yesterday's Draught House and Stage, River City, Generations, Capitol Theater, Towngate Theater.

Opryland Hotel in Nashville is a must see. Several indoor, arena size botanical gardens, with shops, restaurants, and clubs... all inside. It is like a huge bio-dome.

Loveless cafe is famous for its southern food, and you might run into a few famous musicians. If you go to downtown Nashville, eat at the Spaghetti Factory. It is cheap and delicious.

East TN, near Knoxville has a huge flee market, and another if you travel towards Gatlinburg. You can spend a week in Gatlinburg with all of the things you can do there. It is like Orlando in the mountains.

    Travel safe! Have fun.

Big snowstorm headed toward TN Wednesday evening. We don't drive in snow. Some school systems are closed today (Tuesday) from yesterday's snow. I suggest you go to www.nws.noaa.gov and look at the forecast for the areas you might visit. Not sure it is a good time for a road trip.

That said, if you go to www.tnvacation.com and www.visitmusiccity.com, there are calendars that can tell you exactly what is going on during your dates.

abamo will listen to the same people he has been listening to for the last twenty or more years. People of this country are so jaded by corrupt politics that they are grasping at straws and baromo is the straw that they are all reaching for. He is not only corrupt. He is vile. Why can't these lemmings see him for the pied piper that he is. I guess they will all wake up when they are half-way down the cliff, and then it will be too late. God have mercy on this nation.
