How many people critical of the Catholic Church believe a lie because it fits their prejudices so well?

This is a psychological phenomenon in which individuals tend to seek out information that confirms their existing beliefs. It's a shame that those existing beliefs are derogatory of the faith of others.

I was incredulous about the app so I read a few stories about it - turns out the app is designed only to assist someone with preparing for confession via a very well-established practice called an Examination of Conscience. I can't think of a reason why non-Catholic Christians would object to the Examination of Conscience, which consists of spending time with the Lord and thinking about ways that a believer has sinned, missed an opportunity to serve the Lord, or ways that he or she could serve the Lord better.

There are many. Anytime the Vatican says something, the Pope is interviewed, or something Catholic is mentioned in the media...it seems there is a flash mob of ignorance that runs amok!

I wouldn't worry too much about that crazy bigot. The ones who fall for that kind of anti-Catholicism already lap up every lie ever printed anyway. This is one reason why anti-Catholic media hype backfires. Intelligent people will investigate for themselves what Catholics really believe, and discover most of what they have been told about Catholicism from the media and their "churches" are just lies.
