What is the point of stars? I don't really understand what awarding stars actually does...?

There are no points given to the giver or recipient... I can see is helps people know the kind of question they enjoyed thinking about...but it doesn't tell them what you enjoyed about it... maybe stars are not the best option maybe a score or optional feedback would be better

Stars indicate someone liked the question. They alert the clicker’s fans of the question, so they might also answer, giving the person more or better answers. They can also push a question to the POPULAR tab on the Home page. A LOT of stars alerts the staff to review it, for "Featured Question" or "Best of Answers.

The stars are just to show that the question was interesting that is why there are no points connected with the star, purely a goodwill gesture on the part of the answerer. This is just a question and answer site, feedback makes it more of a chat site and it is against the guidelines. The only way there would be feedback is if the answerer contacted the asker via IM or Email.

They are just another feature that yahoo gives us to make answers more of a game.

No serious point, just to show that you found the question interesting, that's it. ;)
