Just Curious About Dog Breed Restrictions with Homeowners Insurance?

Our new homeowners policy restricts several breeds of dog, including "Pit Bulls". I, personally, have nothing against bully dog types, so if a dog chooses me and it is an American Staffordshire Terrier, since their rules say "Pit Bulls" - I'm good, right, since technically a "Pit Bull" isn't a breed?

If you have AKC papers proving he/she is an american staffordshire terrier than you can get away with it. If the ears are not cropped you can pull off the american bulldog terrier mix.

Most do not just say "pit bulls but rather Pit types which includes Staphies. along with several other breeds. the bigger companies even list the staph out right as a no no breed.

  • You should check with your home owners insurance. You don't want to pay all that money for your home owners insurance and then if something happens and they end up denying your claim because they said you went against your contract.

staffordshires will be lumped into that category, unless you have papers proving otherwise.

You can always call it a boxer/lab mix, I've seen many people get away with that.
