Is salt, bit of it in his food , good for cats?

I am aware that cats need a bit if salt but not sure! just a small pinch when boiling chicken is it OK?

I try and give my baby home made food besides the one recommended by the vet, Royal Canin , because he's been castrated and this special one helps him not to develop crystals that can be a problem.

Please advise-Thanks
