Pregnant after having a baby 3 weeks ago?

I had my baby boy on January 24th, and last night I had sex with my fiance (without a condom) . Is it easy to get pregnant after just having your baby 3 weeks before?

Update:

BTW I am NOT trying to get pregnant again.

Update 2:

Amir- I was NOT pregnant when I had sex. I ALREADY HAD MY BABY BORN.

Update 3:

Raija- Yeah, they told me to wait 6 weeks, but unforunately I didn't listen. :( But I was wondering, if you are MORE fertile after delivery?

Update 4:

PIPPIN- No, not breastfeeding, so is it VERY LIKELY i will become pregnant?? I'm concerned.

Update 5:

AND WILL.....THAT WAS PRETTY CRUEL.

Update 6:

Thank you for your help pippin!!! :)

    Are you breastfeeding?

If so, it's VERY VERY *VERY* unlikely that you would be fertile again this soon. Most nursing moms don't ovulate again until 6-12 months after giving birth, and it's very rare to see anything much before 3-4 months. So, while not impossible, the odds would be remote indeed.

If you are not breastfeeding, then pregnancy is more possible. While you are NOT (despite the myth so many folks here promote) super-fertility-woman after giving birth, if you have ovulated again, you have returned to normal fertility. And 3-4 weeks would be a pretty typical time for a non-nursing mom to have her first ovulation.

EDIT: As noted, you are not 'more fertile' after giving birth. It may appear at times that women are 'more fertile' simply because, since you HAVE had a baby, you are now of proven fertility. So when calculating typical pregnancy rates, you omit from your calculations the 20% or so of couples with fertility problems. So, rather than the 20-25% per cycle 'average' pregnancy rate in a large population of couples having sex during their fertile days, you might have a 30-35% rate.

EDIT#2: Nobody can give you a precise percentage. IF you are ovulating about now, the odds might be pretty high. But it's also very possible that you won't ovulate for another couple weeks, in which case the odds would be zero.

I'm not sure if PlanB is recommended in the early post-partum weeks, but you could call your doctor or the pharmacist and ask.

EDIT#3: Kara -- google LAM (lactation amenhorrhea method) -- breastfeeding itself is not a form of birth control, but LAM is -- and a very effective one, comparable to condoms or the pill.

If you have sex you can get pregnant (if you have all your parts), wheather you just had a baby yesterday or 5 years ago!! What isn't a good idea is to be having sex before your 6 week PP check up!! You should really make sure you are healed, you could cause some major complications if you have sex before the doctor give you the go ahead. I could never imagine having sex 3 weeks after giving birth to my son, I was so exhausted and still far from healed sex wasn't even entering my mind. If you don't want to have another baby...don't have sex without protecting yourself!

To the breastfeeding comment, breastfeeding is NOT a form of birth control. I hate when people think that that can protect against pregnancy. I exclusively breastfeed and I got my period exactly 4 weeks after giving birth and it's been dead on every month since!!

If you were having unprotected sex, you were trying to get pregnant. If you do absolutely nothing to protect yourself, what else would you call it? To answer your question, yes you can get pregnant after having your baby. Have you had a regular period since you had him? If not, then you probably aren't ovulating yet, so you may be safe, but still, it's extremely STUPID to have sex with no protection after JUST having a child. They say to wait for a reason. Not only can pregnancy occur, but you could get an infection also. Just abstain for the time your doctor tells you and there won't be a problem.

Please exercise a lot more caution. Right after giving birth, without being too graphic here, everything is "open" and you are a lot more likely to get pregnant.

Really be more careful. You probably didn't get pregnant this time, but don't take a chance like that again. Good luck.

Why are you having sex so soon? You aren't supposed to have sex for 6 weeks because your body is still healing and is not ready for sex. Yes you could get pregnant but i would seriously hold off altogether until you are completely healed. They don't tell you to wait 6 weeks for no reason...

It’s common sense: the healthier you are, the more likely you are to get pregnant. Try to do whatever you can to improve your chances of getting pregnant. Learn here https://tr.im/S1loY

If you are overweight, try to lose some and get to a healthier weight. Eat a healthy, well balanced diet, and exercise as often as possible. Don’t smoke, don’t drink, and of course, don’t do drugs. Try to avoid stressful situations, and keep things as calm as possible. Do whatever you can to keep everything as cool as possible. This will give you the best chance to get pregnant.

It is unbelievably easy to become pregnant. Your cervix is in the perfect position. Don't you have to wait 6 weeks before sex?

Yes...it's just as easy the first time. You may want to try to protect yourself or you will end up with 2 kids under age 1...eesh.

It is entirely possible. Sex before your six-week checkup is not a good idea. Give yourself time to heal. THEN use protection! Remember, ovulation comes before menstruation, so you are fertile again BEFORE your periods resume.

13 months after the first one was born

it did not take long for me to get tired of all the excuses my wife gave for this happening so we

split up and went our separate ways..with out protection? yeah it can happen
