Silly Question from one who has kept animals before but pl. calm my mind?

Its exactly a month when our furry bundle came into our lives, Its a real LONG story-Anyways we have had him neutred, and all shots given-We are going away for a month. Initially, he was to be boarded at a cattery at the vets, but then seeing the small cages, no sunlight, and nothing to look at, + the attendants just come to give food and clean the cages and knowing how he loves to watch the world go by at the windows and as such he went thru enough trauma before he came to us as well as when he was castrated, but since 3 weeks hes doing good and now confident that he is the Prince here. So we have arranged for someone who lives on the premises to come 3/4 times, open the house windows in the day , feed him , clean his litter tray and have fresh filtered water in his bowl. This way he will be in his own surroundings ,But I am feeling bad leaving him! YES, he knows the person who will tend to him, but he can't play with him .Will my Kitty feel lonely? He has a scratch pole, and the living room to jump around in , sofas, his favorite place etc BUT will he act strange when we get back? Ummh I did not expect myself to ask this question, but there! its done -Maybe old age! the sudden anxiety syndrome

Thanks guys for the help in advance

My maid also will come in every 3 days to clean up,she too is used to him and my neighbours , will come by too, to pet him-I will be 12000 miles away! Once again my dear answerers thank you

If you TRUST this person to come in ( without letting your "Prince" escape ), and take care of his food, litter, water, and "fresh air" concerns, then GO FOR IT. Your cat will be fine in his own home....as long as he doesn't get out, or get sick. Make sure you leave you vet's phone # for your care-giver, and instructions w/your vet for him to take care of your cat IF NEEDED....just in case!!

Before you leave, make a recording of your voice and leave it for your "caretaker" to play for him, while he's "tending" to him. You could also call every few days to check on him, and let this person let him hear you.

Also, wear a few different sets of clothes before you leave, and put them around your house for him to find and sleep on.....this should help with any "abandonment" issue. You may want to have this person come in for awhile each day, BEFORE you leave ( you go to the store for an hour or so ), so Prince can get used to him coming in and "doing for" him. Then, when you leave for the month, it won't be a "surprise--stranger" coming in.......

As long as your "person" does what he's said he would, your cat should be fine..while you're gone. He may "pay you back" when you return, by "sulking" for awhile, but, hopefully NOT........

Hope this helps, and you leave with a clear mind......Good luck......Enjoy your trip.

Your a very responsibly cat owner for not putting him in a horrible cattery and having someone he knows come in 3/4 times a day to look after him while your away. I'm assuming your wee fur ball has scratch posts and plenty of good toys to play with.

A month is an awful long time to leave your wee cat home alone. If it was me I wouldn't give my cat the run of the house, he may decide to sharpen his claws on your furniture and walls while your away. Have the person looking after him come by your house while your out, to make sure he's comfortable with him. Leaving clothes around you've worn is a good idea as your smell will comfort him. Also leave the vets phone number should anything happen.

I also leave the radio on for my 2 cats when I'm out for some company when I'm not there.

As long as you really trust the person looking after your cat then you shouldn't have any problems.

My cat did horribly in 1 of 2 kennels. The 1st was great probably because it was only 2 days, the second one was 4 days and when I took him out he was sick and stinked really bad and didn't eat. I took him to the vet the next day when I noticed he wasn't eating or drinking. $700.00 later he came out of it.

Some cats do fine and some do not like to be kenneled. This kennel was a vet / kennel so I thought this was a good choice. NEVER AGAIN. Plus my vet told me don't ever kennel him again.

So now I pay my neighbor $15.00 a day to come twice a day to feed him when we are out of town. When we return he is happy to see us, purrs a lot and meows probably to say he is happy we came back.

So feel good that he is in a happy environment and make sure all windows are tightly secure so he won't get out to look for you ;) Keep him safe. It's good to have him chipped as well just in case he gets lost they will be able to find you and call you.

No worries at all, no guilt.

I went on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks and decided to leave my baby home alone. My brother was nice & sent me pics of her when he went to feed her etc & at least he would stay a few hours and just watch tv. I kept the radio on low for my cat too for some background noise, so maybe try that-I also had a timer on my t.v. to come on for about three hours so she could listen to that if she was bored. Your kitty may get lonely, but since cats sleep most of the day he'll get over it fast once you get back :)

he should be fine because he has his carer and cats are indepentdant animals anyway so he should be okay... he shouldn't feel lonely is he allowed outside because if he is he will be less lonely... and he might be strange when you come back but it should'nt take long for everything to get back together and make him sucure with you again :)
