What light do we shed?

Lighting the Way

People enter our lives

Bringing radiant light

That illuminates our spirits,

Then dies to mere embers

Before we enter others lives

Bathing them in a brilliant light:

It is then we realize

What we saw as ten great suns beaming

Were coals to the one who lit our path.

How bright are dim embers

When they enter our lives

To banish our darkest times?

I read this several times and my first reaction was of sadness. The thought of when people come into our lives for the first time filled of new things. It is all glorious and bright like a huge fire seen for miles. Then it dies down to mere embers and we are off to find that next big flame to make us light up again. But then I thought about the embers left after a dying fire and how they are the meat of things. They are just as hot and deadly as the big flame. The embers can flare up again into that illuminating light that one might need when called upon. You just have to remember to tend and feed it so it doesn't die completely from your life. I have friends in various stages of light and fire. Some of my most special ones are my embers that are there keeping me warm and I know will become the great beacons of light when I need them to. I know this is a longer reply than the poem itself. Anyway, you got me to thinking as normal Shannon.

Love it! I have a few people in my life that make my heart soar when I see them. This reminds me of how I feel with them. My little granddaughters always bring a ray of sunshine with them when they come over.

    Nice poem, Shannon. Very nice.

I vote Regwah for BA. I'll find myself thinking about this poem, and that's the mark of a good one to me.
