At a local zoo, there are octopi and people. if there are a total of 116 feet, and you count 22 heads, how many octopi and people are there?

Octopi have 8 legs; people have 2. Both octopi and humans have 1 head each, so:
a + b = 22
a = 22-b
8a + 2b = 116
8(22-b) + 2b = 116
176 - 8b + 2b = 116
60 - 6b = 0
60 = 6b
10 = b
a + b = 22
a + 10= 22
a = 12
There are 9 octopi and 10 humans
