Workplace Refrigerator?

The refrigerator at my workplace is starting to smell really gross and there are things that have been in there for months now. Usually the supervisor was the one the clean it out, but since we have new supervisor, it hasn't been cleaned. I'm going to take matter into my hands. I want to write an email to the staff to warn them and give them time to take their items out.

What is a good way to write this email?

Many thanks for your help :)

Before you do anything, make sure you get the approval and backing of the new supervisor...if you don't, you could be asking for trouble. Once you have that, send a simple and concise e-mail saying that the refrigerator will be cleaned out on (put date here, and give a week's notice). If you have anything in the refrigerator that you don't want thrown out, please remove it by (place date here, preferably 24-48 hours beforehand).

I would mention it to the supervisor and see what he/she thinks about making a list of employees to clean out the refrigerator each Friday. That is the way we did it where I worked. We used to have to share a refrigerator with the laboratory. Speaking of gross, I never put anything in there.

Everyone who uses the refrigerator should take a turn cleaning it. It's no small chore if left for an extended period of time. Take the issue to the supervisor and have him/her post a schedule and who's in charge of it each week. Just make a rule that everything has to be labeled and have tape and a marker available and everything older than a week is to be tossed. That way everyone is involved and it's not a chore just for one person.

    Post the following for example:

    day and time of cleaning

stipulate everything will be tossed-containers, frozen, items

state the obvious reason-the fridge is unhealthy in its current state.

In a perfect world, groups will take on the cleaning each week. Knowing human nature, you might not get any help. If you decide to be the main person, stick to your guns and state everything will be pitched at the end of the week.

Good luck as I know everyone will think it is someone else's job.

along with the email, we would post a large sign on the refrigerator stating anything not claimed by the date you schedule the cleaning would be discarded. Then if your really nice, clean the dishes, then make them available for a few days before discarding. Usually when the day comes to clean it, the stuff is left behind deliberately for you to deal with.

Ours gets cleaned out every Friday at a certain time. Everyone knows to get their stuff out of it or it will be thrown away. A lot of people complain, but oh well, they were warned. Just put a sign up on the fridge's door telling when it will be cleaned and if they don't get their stuff out it will be dumped.

I have seen it done all different ways, and you have some good input here. But I wanted to say 'good for you' for stepping up.

Is there a group of you that could rotate the unofficial responsibility of cleaning it out once a month or so? It's a thank less job, I know. Been there.

The Refrigerator should be cleaned out at least once a week.

A sign posted: "This Refrigerator is cleaned on (day and time). ALL items left in the Refrigerator on that day and time will be thrown out in the trash."

The people who use the Refrigerator should be the people who clean it, take turns. One person should have to do it all the time.

Don't get me started! that is MY job at work....to take out the outdated and left food and drinks. I put signs up and once a week I remove things. Some people get mad but the sign states things have to have a name on them and have to be dated. It really bugs me that people are SO lazy that they can't take care of their own leftovers or half empty drinks.

E-mail and ask if you can be in charge (with maybe some one to help you) .
