Chevy Ambulance Gearbox problem is it terminal?
96 Chevy Ex-Ambulance turbo diesel with the 4L80-E box. I am told these are usually bomb-proof so hoping it might be something simple. It slips in Drive and won't change up into overdrive so although it is fine up to 40mph that is as far as it gets.
Farly certain it is more than just the overdrive...topping out at 40 means it must be still in 2nd or 3rd ar most.

Sounds like the overdrive went out. Not sure about those 4L80-E, but I had to change mine when the same thing happened on my 94 silverado.
