how much do you pay your babysitter?

The babysitter is 16 and will be watching my two girls - ages 3 &9. It's the first time I've used a babysitter that wasn't family...and I have no idea what the going rate is. I want to be fair to her, but the only thing I can remember about babysitting pay is what I got 20 years ago when I was babysitting. :(

It depends where you live too, if you live in a small town in the south you might pay less if you live in the north east it will be more.

I live in the north east in Connecticut and I would pay a 16 yr old to babysit two children about $8- $10. per hour with a $20 minimum so if she is coming for just an hour and a half while you go to an appointment I would still pay $20. rather than $15.

the people saying $3. per hour are ridiculous, what 16 yr old wants to spend 5 hours of her friday night watching two children for a total of $15. LOL that's ridiculous. Even $5. would be very cheap, for 5 hours of care they would only get $25.? That might cover their gas money there with these latest gas prices.

We pay $5 pr hr and as a 40 something yr old mother of three, I recently had a babysitting job and got paid $5 hr. A babysitter should get paid more if the people can afford it, but I've never had anyone be able to afford more than $5 or $6 hr. and I've babysat for a lot of people over the years. My teen daughters also get $5 an hour.

it depends on what they have to do and how long you will be gone.. if i babysit for someone for only like an hour-3 hours they usually give me like $20.. in the summer i babysat and got paid by the hour for each child.. $2 for the 3 year old and $2 for the two older kids who were 6 & 8. I think that for a 3 & 9 year old you could pay 3-5 dollars an hour...

It depends on her experience, in my area an experienced babysitter gets paid $10 an hour. It also depends how many children and if she has to change diapers. If she isn't that experienced I would say $6-7 an hour is fair, since the 9 year old can pretty much take care of themselves.

When my sister babysits (she is 16) I usually pay her in MAC make-up, so between $30-$50 a night. but she is only watching 1 toddler.
