Why is my hair falling out?

I lose strands of hair constantly. I know it is normal to lose like a hundred strands a day but I am losing more than that. Even when my friends play with my hair they say it falls out very easily. I am always having to clean out my hair brush and shower drain. I find it on my shoulder all the time. I have thick hair and I haven't dyed it in a long time. I'm a sixteen year old girl btw.

Update:

I just want an idea of what it could be.

There are various medical conditions that can cause excessive hair loss. You need to see your doctor for an exam and appropriate lab work to find out why it is happening and get treatment for it.

No one here can tell you why or even venture a guess. You need an examination and testing to find out why it is happening to you.

    Hi Brooke,

A number of things can cause excessive hair loss. For example, about 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair. This hair loss is related to the stress of the illness and is temporary.

Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss.

Some medicines can cause hair loss. This type of hair loss improves when you stop taking the medicine. Medicines that can cause hair loss include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, high blood pressure or heart problems, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.

Certain infections can cause hair loss. Fungal infections of the scalp can cause hair loss. The infection is easily treated with antifungal medicines.

Finally, hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it is important to find the cause so that it can be treated.

    Hope it helps

I'm more youthful than you and I lose hairs like that always. Your hair is made of lifeless cells, and the autumn out often. Just due to the fact a few fall out daily does not imply you're going bald. So, I might say what you're going by way of is flawlessly typical.
