what causes a pulsation in the stomach?
My girlfriend is 20 years old and will regularly get a pulsation consistent with her heartbeat in her abdominal region around her belly button. ive read that it is the abdominal aorta but is it normal for it to be painful? It is sometimes painful enough to bring her to tears and almost always happens after we eat, especially if she eats too much. I have also noticed it happens when she goes from the outside (its cold out, michigan winters) to indoors. putting pressure on her stomach relieves the pain. she is skinny...probably 120 lbs and 5 4. i wouldnt say she eats very healthy...could this be a symptom of dehydration? thanks for the answers in advance :o)
Thank you for your opinions. I had once mentioned to her it might be crohns disease because she gets multiple canker sores in her mouth and often. also, she is very pale skinned and i also read that anemia is a symptom of crohns disease. guess ill have to drag her to the doctors...thanks!

Its not a symptom of dehydration. It sounds vascular with you mentioning that it gets worse when she goes from the cold into the warm. The more blood goes to the digestive system after eating so that the food can be absorbed. You are correct about the abdominal aorta and in my opinion unless diet can change the problem immediately, she needs to go to the doctor and get a scan. This is because an abominal aerotic aneurysm is one possible cause of this. This is by far the most serious thing it could be, but these need operating on as soon as possible. Do not say anything which might worry her, as this could make her blood pressure increase and could endager her if it is one of these nasty things. Try to keep her calm and in a good mood. I will say though that abdomimal aerotic aneuryms are normally are found in the elderly and would be very rare in someone aged 20. Chrones disease is another possibility for this. The problem could be dietry. Sometimes when people think that they eat very healthy they might go over the top and not eat the types of foods which are okay to eat in moderation like bacon or minced beef, and have so much fruit that they get diarrhea etc. If she gets diarrhea then she may have dehydration and should eat foods to bulk out the intestines like toast and yogurt. Likewise if you get too much fibre and its all rough fibre like bran it can be harsh on the bowels, some soft fibre like oats in the diet is beneficial to the bowels.

I by no means heard of it being a drawback. If I lay on my again or suck in my stomach, I can see my heartbeat too, and so's the case with so much humans who're lean adequate so far as I recognize. The center is larger than the spot that pulses, however on the grounds that flesh is smooth it isn't sudden that the movement is transmitted to the simplest path. Maybe your health practitioner noticed anything mistaken with the designated means it did, otherwise you had different signs you did not say right here I bet.

I'm guessing cease in the stomach region. She needs to get it checked out. This is not normal and shouldn't be taken for granted. Hurry up and drag her to the doctor's office. By the way, I doubt that it's dehydration.
