Can a permanently disabled child receive medicaid and medicare?

My daughter's doc asked me today what she had - I told him medicaid. He said to check with social sevices to see if she could also receive medicare. I'm guessing some states vary. We're in VA. Any help on this, would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes she should be able to, you just have to go to your local soc. services and apply.

Source(s): I live in VA too and I'm on child disability with a mix of medicare and medicaid.
  • My permanently disabled only child receives SSI and Medicaid. My permanently disabled only child also receives SSDI and Medicare.

So yes, it is possible for a permanently disabled person to get Medicaid and Medicare both.

She has to be on SSDI in order to get Medicare and that happens 24 months after she gets SSDI which is permanent disability. Most doctors dont want to take Medicaid since it does not pay them much.

When you applied for SSI, you also applied for SSDI. SSI/Medicaid. SSDI/Medicare.

States do not vary. Eligibility is the same although execution varies.
