should i get SSD or VelociRaptor?
ok well it says it all. im thinking about getting a new SSD or a VelociRaptor...i know SSD is MUCH faster then the VelociRaptor. and is much less maintence then HDDs. BUT the prices are still very high...its like $80 for 30gb SSD. for $80 a 10,000RPM VelociRaptor 150gb(but its recertified by Newegg.com)what im getting at is the speed really worth it? is it really that big of a difference between the 2.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...
is a new VelociRaptor which is $30 more thne the recerti.
i know a better hardrive will not give me better FPS while gaming...im talking more about file xfers and booting. stuff like that. opening programs and files and what not.

I would recommend for best performance:
1) Get a SSD for windows, and a normal hdd for software/games/media
2) Get a SSD for software/games, and use a normal hdd for windows/media
3) Get a SSD for windows and software/games(would need like a 128-256gb one) and a normal hdd for media(music, movies, pics, documents, etc)
I would not buy a recert HDD....
if you cant afford a ssd just get a 7200rpm drive.
TBH a better hdd isnt going to give you better fps while gaming, it just makes startups of windows/software faster. So unless you already have a good processor/video card, id just suggest buy a normal hdd and save up to upgrade those.

It really depends on how much you are going to put into the hard drive. If you have more than 30GB you should get the VelociRaptor. However, if you don't have that much then I would recommend the SSD. It's much faster in both read and write plus it's quieter.

The reviews for it tend to recommend getting two of them and putting them into Raid0 configuration.
Furthermore I have a 1.5 TB Seagate 7500RPM Barracuda (ST3500418AS) and it's faster than the velociraptor according to the Passmark hard drive benchmarks [ http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/high_end_drives.... ] , it was approximately the same price at the time I got it too. Seems counterintuitive for a 7500RPM hard drive to beat a 10000RPM drive but I believe it's because the Seagate packs its data much more densely than the WD, so the 7500RPM rotation bottleneck isnt much of a bottleneck. Make of that what you will.
If I was ordering a hard drive online (or had one picked out on a tech catalogue), I would check passmark for benchmarks and newegg for reviews.
