Why won't my DVD drive read DVDs?

I have an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7563a, driver version 6.0.6002.18005 on Vista.

I tried checking for firmware updates (there were none), I reinstalled the driver software, and also cleared the filters from the registry. It reads CDs just fine, but DVDs don't even spin in the drive.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Update:

I already tried reinstalling the driver, to no avail. And cleaning the the lens didn't work, but i did clean out most of the drive while i was at it, it's dust free now =P

Sounds like the DVD chip stopped properly working. Since you've done the main troubleshooting steps, I would recommend getting another DVD drive. My mother had a similar issue years ago and after talking with the manufacturer, determined the DVD drive was bad.

Go to control panel, then device manager, expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives, double click your dvd drive, then click driver and then uninstall, restart your computer and wait till the driver installs again (automatically).... I hope this will fix your problem....
