NHL Board of Governors and head shots?

Come on guys the head shot controversy is easily remedied.

If you take out a player because of a head shot which is deemed intentional then that player is suspended for the same period of time as the injured player.

Also built into all contracts is a clause that if you take out a player with a head shot and are suspended then you receive no monies while suspended.

Simplistic, of course, effective, absolutely.

Players don't get paid when suspended now................no clause needed..

The NHLPA will not go along with "that player is suspended for the same period of time as the injured player" because it would be too easy in the case of concussions to fake symptoms in an attempt to keep an opposing player from playing. The NHLPA deemed that late in the season this would be detrimental to the integrity of the game.

The NHL is talking out of its **** plain and simple. I bet they didnt even spend more then 5 minutes discussing the head shot rule, the media is just making it look like they had this big meeting about it they didn't, its a ploy to make people think the NHL gives a damn about its players as a result to get more people to tune in.

Look if the NHL was really serious about this (which they aren't) they'd do a three strike policy

1st time (no injuries): 10 games

2nd time (no injuries) The season

3rd time (no injuries): Life-time ban

1st time (with injuries): Until the player injured returns

    2nd time (the season)

    3rd time (life time ban)

I'm referring to intentional hits to the head. I'm not referring to a player lining up another and the other player has its head down. Also hits from behind fall into this categotry too.

    Hi

So I am a 4 line checker, just called up from the AHL, out against Ovechkin. I see him put his head down as he drives towards the net. I go in for the big check, thinking to myself I am about to make a major impact. As I go in he turns a little and is now facing the boards right as I hit him. He goes down and misses the rest of the season and playoffs. What was moments earlier a legal check went very bad with no malice involved. Is it fair to possibly ruin a young players career off of a moment he had very little control over?

Same thing, but this time Ovechkin hits him. Some "doctors" recommend he sits out the rest of the season due to possible concussion symptoms. The team meets Washington in the playoffs and Ovechkin is still required to sit out due to a career AHLer not returning from injury. Again is this a far punishment to a situation of very little malice and intent?

    Thank You

The NHL BoG already screwed up hockey by introducing the instigator penalty.

Players used to play without helmets, for petes's sake! Bring back the enforcers and let the players police themselves. Guys like Crosby, Stamkos, and Ovechkin will never have to worry about concussions because if anyone lays a glove on them, they'll get their heads pounded into the ice (only 8% of concussions comes from fights).

    It worked for Gretzky.

  • Not a bad idea but how do you determine if the head shot was intentional?

Gary Bettman deserves a head shot for watering down Canada's game. We dont need to get rid of head shots since hitting is a part of hockey.
