Why don't they send helicopters to drop food and bottled water to survivers still trapped in the Tsunami ?
Tsunami rubble is what I mean as there is not enough space in the question.
You hear of British, Chinese and Russian etc rescuers joining the rescue effort in Japan, yet they can only do so much on foot. My friend in Tokyo has an aunt who worked in an old people's home in Sendail. As of now they are still trapped inside with diminishing food, no water, no electricity or gas. They are afraid to venture out due to the flooding river nearby. She is asking people on facebook and twitter for advice on how to survive in such a condition. Why are rescuers not coming in by helicopters? I understand that roads are destroyed and other infrascture in the same fate, but why not also get a boat from someone South with supplies and go up avoiding the radiation zone and to the port of Sendai, then they can go inland and distribute food. It just seems that the focus has been on the nuclear disaster. They are not doing enough, not quickly enough, for the people hanging on by a thread. I think the Japanese government should stop being so proud and appeal to the UN for a world wide rescue effort, cause clearly they need something that they don't have at the moment.

1: Just not enough helicopters and not enough fuel. Rescuers and aid are coming in by helicopter. The airlift itself was complicated on Sunday morning (I think) by the Fukushima problem.
The Sendai sky was full of them immediately after the `quake by the way.
2: Sendai Port was blocked by flotsam following the Tsunami rendering the docks inoperable, this has now been cleared sufficiently by US Navy and ships are expected today.
Avoiding the Fukushima area by sea will add a day I would think to the journey up from Tokyo Bay.
The US Navy moved their ships when they were 160kms off the coast days ago because of the radiation.
3: The rescue teams have had nothing but praise to say about how Jp.Gov. is handling the disaster situation.
Since the `quake on Friday in our area of Sendai:-
Saturday: Mobile phones restored in the morning.
Sunday: Electricity restored, Toilets put in place, food and water deliveries started.
Monday: Some UK aid arrived for every household.(Thankyou)
Other areas have been left remote by the disaster and troops and rescuers are working day and night to reach them.
Roads are gradually being restored.
Route 4 the main highway is passable and many roads east from that have been cleared, but many remain blocked as of yesterday.
JR opened the west coast line to Akita on Tuesday and I believe that electric power was restored to it yesterday and a freight train is going up there.
China is sending many thousands of tonnes of petrol and an equal amount of diesel by ship.
Helicopters are coming from other nations that did not have them stationed there already.
I`m sure that Jp.Gov. will have questions to answer about the rescue and aid effort, it is, after all almost nationwide, but overall the impression that I get is that they are doing OK in almost intolerable winter conditions.
The enormity of the natural disaster is quite unimaginable and the on top of that they get the `nuclear thing` and the sight of all the foreigners leaving that have been evacuated by their governments, whilst they are being told `don`t worry, it`s all OK` by their Gov... who knows what to think about it?

the people are either dead or trapped - if they could move around they would be spotted and rescued.
