If knowledge would hurt, would we still ask these questions?
We give ourselves a good old pat on the back because we are "intelligent", we want to discover, to know things, we are superior to animals because of these things (we think we are) but...
If all these things would have a negative impact on ourselves, if it would hurt (to be specific) would we still want to discover, to learn? A very good example of doing something (even though "something else") and among my favorites, is the hyena; due to scientific - biological research we know that when hyenas copulate, it hurts like hell, but they do it anyway because they have to reproduce. That amazes me because i know that if we were like that we would appreciate life on a whole new level. Now nature was "kind" with us but I always like to think that there was no other way, that humans are so stupid that they had to be tricked into pleasure to reproduce, and now earth is overpopulated, so not only is it easier to make children, hell i'll make one almost anytime, anywhere, but we don't even know when to stop. We have so much knowledge but we don't decide to follow it. All this knowledge is there for the taking, it does not cost us anything, in fact it does the opposite, it gives us purpose. See who would look through a telescope if they would go blind in a year. Are we that superior? Anything that we do can be linked to, "i need to eat", "i need to have sex", "i need to sleep and have a place to feel secure" and that's about it (it's like a freaking mouse, worse even because he doesn't have self consciousness right? we are the intelligent beings) (lol) . Most of us are animals and maybe that's why some people say that we are not born humans, we grow up to be one, if we do. there are too few who sacrificed something for knowledge, and it is not only books and what you learn in institutions. there is knowledge everywhere and in anything.
So...in conclusion, hit me with your best opinion about these things.

From what I understand there has been a study or two that linked intelligence to unhappiness (the greater the intellect, the more folks tend to be dissatisfied), so maybe learning does indeed hurt (in a way).
I think, though, that if it actually, physically hurt to learn, most everyone would be even more stupid than we already are.

There are those that will not listen to reason, because the truth really does hurt. They have to believe that they are truly "chosen" by God or nature to do as they please at the expense of all others. The truth is we are still just selfish animals, animals with superior intelligence. But we use that intelligence to justify our continued selfishness and hold ourselves superior to all other life forms, even more important than the planet itself.
This is just animal behavior and the selfishness of life - caring only about your own genetic material or that of your tribe.
Ignorance is adored and reason is damned because it doesn't fit the self centered and entitled view of the world held by those who fear the truth.
