This has been going on with Gaddafi since 1986, we just missed him back then.

Several of you have answered that the "War Powers Act" authorizes the president to act militarily up to 60 days before Congress acts. Actually, it does not. The "War Powers Act" in no way trumps the Constitution. If the president wants to act unilaterally on a military misadventure then the Constitution must first be amended to nullify the Congressional war declaration mandate in Article1, section 8. It matters not if every president has acted otherwise, there is NO justification for this military action in Libya!

The US, Britain, Canada, France, Spain, and Italy have been standing by for quite some time waiting for the UN to stop farting around and get down to a vote to do something for the civilians in Libya. They were ready to go. It has nothing to do with the Constitution, every President in my lifetime has ordered some kind of military action, without the need to consult Congress.

Wow, we just launched a few hundred tomahawk missiles at Libya
the authority is the war powers act.. the presidency can act unilaterally for 60 days before Congress has to be involved.

This authority was handed down by the EMPIRE that has a history of claiming more power than the US Constitution and the UN. Laugh about my answer if you wish... Later, when you are buying gasoline for your car or truck, I doubt you will be laughing.

You should research government independently .
first the u.n santioned it,
secondly the president can send combat forces anywhere in the world, the catch is that congress has to approve their stay after 60 days
