if the owner of a hairdressing salon does your hair, should you tip them (in UK)?

I usually tip about 10% in a hair salon but I'm now using a salon where the owner does my hair and it costs an arm and a leg. Am I right in thinking it's not customary to tip where the owner does your hair - I find the whole should I, should I not, thing embarrassing frankly, to the extent that it sometimes puts me off having my hair done.

at the same time as my hairdresser worked out of her domicile, she instructed me now to not tip her. She owns her salon, and that i tip her now. FYI - my buddy owns a bar, and he used to bartend until eventually the customer chanced on out he became the owner and stopped tipping him. We locate the owner as getting a more suitable slice of the pie, and for this reason would not "opt for" the end money.

If I'm ever in that situation I pay on my card. You don't normally get the option to tip when you're in a hairdressers, and if you do, you can discreetly continue without tipping and the hairdresser won't see.
