Will a very tiny amount of amoxicillin affect the effectiveness of birth control pills?
I'm one who worries a lot about everything, I may even be a hypochondriac.
But anyways, I'm taking birth control pills (Necon 1/35) and just recently, my boyfriend became very ill. We went to the doctor and we found out that he was suffering from a high fever that accompanied strep throat.. so for a treatment plan, he chose to take the amoxicillin in liquid form (the pink liquid that tastes like blissful sweetness) and I'm just a bit worried because I realized I have a habit of licking the spoon after giving him his required dose.
Will that tiny amount affect the effectiveness of my birth control pill? Am I worrying too much, as usual?
Thanks for any advice :)

A small percentage of women may experience decreased effectiveness with the use of antibiotics, so doctors usually advise all women to use a condom or other backup method of birth control while on antibiotics. There is no way of knowing if you are in that percentage until it is too late. New versions of the birth control pill in low-dose form may be more prone to decreased effectiveness.
Antibiotics are thought to interfere with the metabolization of birth control pills. Birth control pills are usually given a 95 to 99 percent effectiveness rate. The studies that have been done show a very small difference in effectiveness. Usually the difference is less than 1 percent.
A partner taking antibiotics will not interfere with a woman's use of birth control pills.

Haha. I still absolutely LOVE the taste of Amoxicillin, and I am 24. ^_^ I highly (and I mean HIGHLY) doubt that such a minuscule amount of it would affect your birth control. However, with that being said, antibiotics (in general) can affect your birth control. But usually only if you are really taking them. I don't think that licking a little off of a spoon counts haha. You're probably over thinking it, but if you're really worried about it, just use a back-up method for a few days. :) Good luck and best wishes!

No, I'm sure you're fine...
but if he is ill, might not be the best of ideas to lick the spoon that he has used xx
