Lime in water - I'm running a humidifier in a bedroom Our tap water doesn't run through a water softener.?

Question

So there's a lime coating that's building-up on the mechanism.  I use filtered water from our Brita, but the filters are $$ expensive.  Brita Inc. says they filter-out lime.  ??-

Is there lime in 1) distilled water?   
                        2) the water that you buy in gallon jugs at the grocery store?
                        3) the water that is collected when we have to run run a dehumidifier in basement?
                        4) rain water?
                        5) melted snow?

Where can I get lime-free water ..... without having to spend $$ ---?   And I don't want to have to boil it either.  And I don't want to have to buy an additive either.  Thanks.  Any hope?

Consider building yourself some type of distillation devise...a solar still, Passive, free operation, limited output, quiet and safe.

a steam still like they use to make 'moonshine' would involve boiling.

1 no, 2 yes if drinking water, 3 no, 4 and 5 no as well.  I would filter 4 and 5 for fine solids.

Always hope. ( Move the bed to the basement where it is moist and save cost of humidifier in bedroom!

1) no.  this is your source for water when you cant get 3, 4 and 5 on your list.
2) yes.  this varies in grains of hardness with what you buy.
